CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
March 2, 2004
Mr. Ray Patchett
City of Carlsbad
1200 Carlsbad Village Drive
Carlsbad, CA 92008
Dear Ray:
Last year, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce established a Downtown
Enhancement Study Group that included individuals representing the Chamber,
the Carlsbad Village Business Association and the City of Carlsbad.
The original purpose of the Study Group was to examine the effect of the
termination of the Redevelopment Area Authority in 2006 and to look at issues
that would contribute to the economic viability of Downtown Carlsbad in the
future.
In July of 2003, the Chamber sponsored a workshop for downtown stakeholders
with urban planner, Peter’Calthorpe. More than 100 people attended the
workshop and worked in small groups to develop a vision for the Village. In
November of last year, the compilations of ideas from the workshop were
presented to more than half of those who attended the first workshop.
The Downtown Enhancement Study Group is requesting the opportunity to report
the results of the two workshops to the Carlsbad City Council at an upcoming
City Council meeting. We would appreciate it if you could place the Carlsbad
Chamber on the agenda at your earliest convenience.
Please contact me with available dates and I will coordinate with the Downtown
Enhancement Study Group.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Very truly yours,
&A- a n Sobel
Executive Consultant
