COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT AND APPRORPIATION

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt Resolution No. 2004-144 accepting the Fireman’s Fund
Heritage Program Phase I Grant funds and appropriating the grant funds to Fire Department
Emergency Operations for the purchase of Fire communications equipment.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City of Carlsbad’s application for grant funding under the Fireman’s Fund Heritage
Grant Program Phase I was approved in the amount of $24,286.
These one-time funds will be used to purchase 15 VHF Portable Handheld Radios, 6 VHF
Apparatus-mounted Mobile Units, 6 Portable Handheld Marine Radios and 2 Apparatus-
mounted Marine Receiving Units. The VHF radio equipment will provide statewide
communication capability during a major fire or mass casualty incident or event. It also
provides communication redundancy in the event of a failure of the San Diego Regional 800
MHz communication system. The Marine Radio equipment will provide direct Fire
Department communication capability with the Coast Guard in marine search and rescue
operations. There are no matching funds required for this one-time grant.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total program cost is $24,286, all of which will be funded by the Fireman’s Fund
Heritage Grant. Grant funds will be appropriated to the Fire Department Emergency
Operations Communications Fund (001 2220-721 1).

RESOLUTION NO. 2004-144
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING FIREMAN’S FUND
HERITAGE GRANT AWARD AND APPROPRIATION OF
FUNDS
WHEREAS, the Fire Department applied for and was awarded a Fireman’s Fund
Heritage Grant in the amount of $24,286 for the purchase of Fire Communications Equipment,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the Fire Chief is authorized to execute all appropriate agreements with
Fireman’s Fund for receipt of the Fireman’s Fund Heritage Grant funds, as well as any required
reports and/or final statements.
3. That the Finance Director is authorized to appropriate $24,286 to Fire
Department Emergency Operations for the purchase of Fire Emergency Operations
Communications Equipment.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City
Council of the City of Carlsbad on the 4th day of 1.1ay 2004, by the following vote:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Kulchin, Hall and Packard
