Arts ~ RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2004-186 accepting a donation from the Carlsbad Arts Associates in the amount of $23,200 and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate said funds. TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF ARTS ASSOCIATES DONATION AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS ITEM EXPLANATION: The Carlsbad Arts Associates, the non-profit support organization of the City’s Cultural Arts Office, has raised funds to support various programs of the Arts Offtce. During the 2003 TGIF Jazz in the Park concert series, the Arts Associates raised over $20,000. Other funds have been raised through membership dues. A portion of the donation, $10,000, will be used to offset costs that may be incurred by the City at the 2004 TGIF concert series, for support services such as shuttle buses, porta-toilets and stage equipment. Twelve thousand dollars ($12,000) will be used for the “Three Part Art” education program presented at the William D. Cannon Gallery to 3rd and 4th graders who attend schools located in the City of Carlsbad. The “Art at Jazz” program, providing hands-on art activities for children attending the TGIF Jazz concerts, will receive $1,200. FISCAL IMPACT: The majority of costs to provide support services for the concert series has been budgeted in the Arts Office Special Events account. The additional $1 0,000 from the Arts Associates will offset any unforeseen and additional costs that may arise (i.e. additional signage, shuttle busses or stage equipment). The Arts Office requests the Finance Director be authorized to appropriate the $10,000 into the Cultural Arts Office Special Events Community Support account. The $1 2,000 designated for the “Three Part Art” program will provide partial funding for curriculum that relates to two exhibitions in the Cannon Art Gallery. The Arts Office requests the Finance Director be authorized to appropriate the $1 2,000 into the Cultural Arts Office Arts Education Community Arts Support account. The $1,200 donation for “Art at Jazz” will provide art supplies and art educators to work with the children. WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Arts Associates, the non-profit support organization of the City’s Cultural Arts Office, has raised funds during the City’s 2003 TGIF Jazz Concert Series and through its membership dues; and WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Arts Associates are donating $23,200 to the City to assist with partial funding of the following programs: $1 0,000 for the 2004 TGIF Jazz in the Parks Concert Series; $12,000 for the “Three Part Art” Program; and $1,200 for the “Art at Jazz” Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the donation from the Carlsbad Arts Associates, in the amount of $23,200 is hereby accepted. 3. That the Finance Director is hereby authorized to appropriate $1 0,000 in the Arts Office Special Events account and $13,200 in the Arts Office Arts Education account.
