TO THE LIBRARY’S FRIENDS DONATIONS FUND, AND
$55,450 IN SUPPORT OF VARIOUS LIBRARY PROGRAMS.
DEPT. LIB ACKNOWLEDGING A PLEDGE OF AN ADDITIONAL
Adopt Resolution No. 2004-217 accepting a donation of $41,330 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library, appropriating the funds to the Library’s Friends Donations Fund,
acknowledging an additional pledge in support of programs valued at $55,450 and directing
an appropriate letters of thanks.

ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $41,330 to the Library for FY 2004-2005.
The donated funds will be used for the following purposes:
Enhancements to Children’s Garden at CCL, Dove Lane $34,500
Additions to the Collection, subscriptions & story time resources 1,830 Magnets and Browsing baskets 4,000
Reference Books for the Cole Library 1,000
$41,330
The donation is to be appropriated to the Library’s Friends Donations Fund.
In addition to the above donation, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged to fund
the following programs and activities valued at $55,450
The Summer Reading Program for 2004
Various Children and Young Adult Programs from September 2003 - May 2004
The Annual Multi-Cultural Program
Author Programs

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF
$41,330 FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE CARLSBAD
LIBRARY TO THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY,
APPROPRIATING DONATION TO THE LIBRARY’S
FRIENDS DONATIONS FUND, AND ACKNOWLEDGING
PLEDGE OF AN ADDITIONAL $55,450 IN SUPPORT OF
VARIOUS LIBRARY PROGRAMS

WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $41,330 to
the library; and
WHEREAS, the library and the Friends have agreed that this donation will
be used for enhancements to the Children’s Garden at the Carlsbad City Library
on Dove Lane and to purchase additions for the Collection, including subscription
costs and additions to the story time resource collection, and magnets and
browsing baskets for library patrons; and
WHEREAS, the Friends have pledged support of the Summer Reading
Program, various Children and Young Adult Programs, the Annual Multi-Cultural
Program and various author programs for FY2004-2005, at a value of $55,450.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That the City Council accepts the gift of $41,330 from the Friends
of the Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby appropriates these
funds to the Library’s Friends Donations Fund.

3. That the City Council acknowledges the additional pledge of
support from the Friends of the Library for $55,450 worth of library programs.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 6th day of
July , 2004, by the following vote, to wit:
