ACCEPTANCE OF $4,000 DONATION TOWARD THE
PURCHASE OF A FIRE SAFETY HOUSE PUBLIC
EDUCATION DISPLAY

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2004-282 to accept a $4,000 donation from Legoland
California to the City of Carlsbad, and appropriate the donated funds toward the Fire
Prevention Fire Safety House purchase.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
A gift of $4,000 has been received from Legoland California to assist in the purchase of a
Fire safety House educational display for use in community fire education. The interactive
Fire Safety House in a child-sized, two-story house that features multiple rooms with safety
information. It is battery powered with special effects designed to illustrate room-specific
fire prevention information. This public education tool has its own packaging for
transportation by car. It can be utilized by a variety of staff, including volunteers, with a
minimum of training.
The total cost of the Fire Safety House is approximately $9,500. Staff is recommending
acceptance of the gift to benefit the Fire Department’s Fire Safety House purchase. The
Fire Department will be utilizing contingency funds to pay for the remaining $5,500 required
for the purchase of this public education tool.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Addition of $4,000 to the Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Division’s account.

RESOLUTION NO. 2004-282
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A GIFT OF MONEY
TOAWRD THE FIRE DEPARTMENT’S FIRE PREVENTION
FIRE SAFETY HOUSE PURCHASE
WHEREAS, Legoland California wishes to make a donation of $4,000 toward the Fire
Department Fire Prevention Fire Safety House purchase,
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept this gift pursuant to the Sections 37354
and 37355 of the California Government Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct
2. That the City Council accepts the gift of money for the Fire Prevention Division’s
Public Education; and
3. That the Finance Director is authorized to appropriate $4,000 to the Fire
Department’s Fire Prevention Division.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City
of Carlsbad on the 14th day of September , 2004, by the following vote:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finilla, Kulchin, Hall and Packard.
NOES: None
