TITLE:
ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF $25,000 TO THE
CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY FROM THE CARLSBAD
LIBRARY FOUNDATION AND APPROPRIATING THE
FUNDS.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2004-283
Library Foundation and appropriating the funds to the Library Media Services Miscellaneous
Professional Services account.

ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Library Programs Division has hosted free Wednesday night movies in the Ruby G.
Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane since the opening of the
facility in September of 1999. Since that time the availability of movies in various formats on
DVDs offers the opportunity to improve the quality of the programs presented.
The Carlsbad Library Foundation voted to donate $25,000 towards the upgrades needed in
the Auditorium. The proposed upgrades will provide a new surround sound audio system, a
larger front-projection screen, a new video projector and new low profile lighting fixtures.
The existing screen and rear-screen projector will remain to support Power Point
presentations and Internet access.
The donation is to be appropriated to the Library Media Services Miscellaneous
Professional Services account.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will offset a part of the project with the remaining costs funded from the
Library’s contingency fund. Preliminary estimate for the total project cost is $30,000 to
$40,000.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A
GIFT OF $25,000 FROM THE CARLSBAD LIBRARY
FOUNDATION TO THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY
AND, APPROPRIATING THE DONATION.-
WHEREAS, The Carlsbad Library Foundation has donated $25,000 to
the Carlsbad City Library to be used towards the upgrades to the audiovisual
equipment in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, and;
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to accept this gift.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $25,000 from The
Carlsbad Library Foundation on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby
appropriates these funds to the Library Media Services Miscellaneous
Professional Services account.

3. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 14th day
