ENG CITY OF CARLSBAD - AGENDA BILL TITLE: - REQUEST FOR OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND TRAINING FOR MAINTENANCE OF ASPHALT PAVEMENT CITY ATTY. CITY MGR. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2004-314 approving one associate engineer from the Engineering Department out-of-state travel to attend a two-day training course on maintaining asphalt pavements. The course is held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from December 2-3, 2004. ITEM EXPLANATION: The purpose of the training is to provide the associate engineer state-of-the-art information on preventive maintenance, techniques to improve pavement performance, strategies to extend pavement life, and the latest information and advances in the field regarding pavement overlays and surface sealing. Preventive maintenance of pavements has proved to be cost-effective in providing service to the public with limited budgets. The course is designed and presented by the University of Wisconsin in cooperation with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost to attend this course for one person is approximately $1,600, which includes flights, shuttles, lodging, and meals. Funds are available in the Engineering budget to cover all estimated costs. EXHIBITS: 1. WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize out-of-state :ravel for one associate engineer to attend an asphalt pavement maintenance training course; and WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2004-2005 Engineering Department budget for :he out-of-state travel. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, Zalifornia, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized in accordance with City policy, for one 2ssociate engineer to attend a training course in maintaining asphalt pavement in Las Vegas, Vevada, from December 2-3,2004. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council ield on the 5th day of October , 2004 by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Kulchin, Hall and Packard.
