Adopt Resolution No. 2004-366
($2,000) in support of the Recreation Department T.R.U.S.T. Program.
accepting cash donations totaling two thousand dollars
ITEM EXPLANATION :
In August 2004 the Recreation Department received two monetary donations totaling two
thousand dollars ($2000) in support of the Department’s T.R.U.S.T. (Teaching Respect and Unity
through Sportsmanship and Teamwork) Program. The Carlsbad Police Officers Association
donated $1 500, and the Carlsbad Village Optimist Club, $500.
The T.R.U.S.T. Program was established 3 years ago as part of the Department’s awareness
and commitment to the importance of sportsmanship. This program can be found in all
Department activities, from Youth and Adult Sports, Enrichment classes, to Preschool Parents,
Stay ‘N’ Play, and Summer Camps. The T.R.U.S.T. Program is being promoted by signage at all
community centers and athletic facilities, as well as a promotional page in the Community
Services Guide.
On September 20, 2004, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved these cash donations. These donations will be used to help promote and support the T.R.U.S.T.
Program message throughout the community. The Recreation Department is grateful for the
efforts and generosity of both the Carlsbad Police Officers Association, as well as the Carlsbad
Village Optimist Club. Letters expressing our gratitude were sent to each organization.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The $1 500 received from the Carisbad Police Officer‘s Association and the $500 received from
the Carlsbad Village Optimist Club has been deposited into the Recreation Trust Account (149-
4503-5651) for utilization in the promotion of the T.R.U.S.T. Program.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF $2,000 IN CASH FOR
SUPPORT OF THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT’S T.R.U.S.T. PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Recreation Department established the T.R.U.S.T. (Teaching Respect, Unity,
and Sportsmanship through Teamwork) Program in August 2001 to promote good sportsmanship throughout
all Recreation programs and activities; and
WHEREAS, Recreation staff solicited support from community organizations to promote and
support the T.R.U.S.T. Program; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the generosity and support of the
$1,500 cash donation by Carlsbad Police Officer’s Association, and the $500 cash donation by Carlsbad
Village Optimist Club in support of the Recreation Department T.R.U.S.T. Program; and
WHEREAS, on September 20, 2004, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously
approved these cash donations totaling two thousand dollars ($2,000) in support of the T.R.U.S.T. program
and recommended acceptance by the Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council does hereby accept Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000) in cash.
3. That the City Council hereby authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the above funds, into the
following account: $2,000 into the Recreation Trust Account, #149-4503-5651.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council held on
the i6th day of November ,2004 by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Finnila, Kulchin, Hall and Packard.
