APPROVING an appropriation of $44,000 from the Vehicle $ 1,242.61 $ 2.485.23 Net savings $ 1,518.75 $ 30,205 ITE M EXP LAN AT ION : The City recently hired two Limited-Term Building Inspectors due to the increase in construction activity. Vehicles are needed for these two positions and there are no funds budgeted in the current fiscal year’s budget. Since the term for these positions is limited to three years, this proposal involves “replacing” two older vehicles before they are actually due to be replaced and keeping the older vehicles for City use. In lieu of leasing additional vehicles, the department has two vehicles approaching replacement mileage within that three-year timeframe. Both vehicles are Ford Taurus currently with about 70- 75,000 miles each. They each run about 12,000 miles on average per year. Since these vehicles will be due for replacement about the time the City would be turning in the leased vehicles, it would be less costly to acquire the replacements now and have the use of the new vehicles. It is a cost saving idea that has not been tried before, but will save the City about $30,000 over the next three years.
