RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2o04-398
San Diego County Genealogical Society to the Carlsbad City Library and appropriating the
funds to the Library Gifts and Bequests Fund.

ITEM EXPLANATION:
The North San Diego County Genealogical Society has long been a supporter of the
Carlsbad City Library and has provided funds for additions to the collection in the Genealogy
Division at the Georgina Cole Library.
The Board of the Society recently voted to donate these funds for the specific purchase of
City Directories of the United States: Segment I (through 1860). This 6,292 microfiche set
contains city directories from the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester,
Massachusetts. The American Antiquarian Society has the largest collection of pre-I 860
city directories in the country. City directories provide important information to genealogy
researchers, especially for the period prior to the 1850 federal census.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will allow a significant addition to the collection over and above the amount
budgeted for collection development for this year.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2004-398 accepting a donation from the North San Diego County
Genealogical Society and appropriating the funds.

ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM THE
NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY GENEALOGICAL
SOCIETY TO THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY AND
APPROPRIATING THE FUNDS
WHEREAS, The North San Diego County Genealogical Society has
donated $18,117.82 to the Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of a microfiche
set, City Directories of the United States: Segment I (through 1860) for the
genealogy collection at the Georgina Cole Library; and
WHEREAS, The City Council wishes to accept this gift on behalf of all
citizens of Carlsbad;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That the City Council accepts the gift of $18,117.82 for the
purchase of the microfiche and appropriates these funds to the
Library gifts and bequests account.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 14th day of
December , 2004, by the following vote, to wit:
