IT TITLE: REQUEST FOR OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND THE HELP DESK INSTITUTE CONFERENCE CITY ATTY. CITY MGR. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2005-052 approving out-of-state travel for the Senior Management Analyst / Project Manager in the Information Technology Department to attend the Help Desk lnstitue Conference. ITEM EXPLANATION: The HDI Annual Conference & Expo is the industry’s largest and most respected comference for internal and external service and support professionals. This year’s program will address the needs of customer service and support organizations to maximize performance and productivity, become more strategic, and integrate with the IT department and the organization as a whole. In support of the City Council’s strategic goal for Learning, Promote and Support Continuous Learning Opportunities within the Community and the City organization, the Information Technology Department requests approval for its Senior Management Analyst to attend the Help Desk Institute Conference, March 61 0, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2005 Help Desk Institute Conference Features: 0 0 Keynotes on Thinking in Future Tense, Maintaining a Winning Spirit and TOUCHnology: Best Practice’s for the World’s Most Successful Virtual Leaders. Workshops: Help Desk Audit: Blueprint for Success, helping IT Managers find creative ways to Improve IT services with smaller budgets and fewer resources; Vertical Visions: Government Customer Support examining the effective and unique ways of addressing customer support challenges; “No Excuse!” teaming: Implementing Selfresponsible Work Teams, providing a no nonsense approach to personal responsibility. In accordance with Council policy, staff requests approval for out of state travel for the Information Technology Department Senior Management Analyst, in order to attend the Help Desk Institute Conference. FISCAL IMPACT: Conference fees, airfare, hotel and meals for the staff member leaving San Diego, Monday, March 7‘h for Las Vegas and returning to San Diego on Thursday, March IOth are anticipated to be approximately $2250. Funds necessary to cover these expenses are available in the Information Technology’s 2004-2005 operating budget. EXHIBITS: 1. Resolution No. 2005-052 , approving out-of-state travel for one (1) Information Technology staff member to travel to Nevada to attend the Help Desk Institute Conference. I 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 2005-052 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE HELP DESK INSTITUE CONFERENCE CARLSBAD, APPROVING OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND WHEREAS, a City Council goal to promote and support continuous learning opportunities within the Community and City organization, exists, and; WHEREAS, the Information Technology Senior Management Analyst requires this training and learning opportunity in order to keep up to date in the customer service and help desk fields, and; WHEREAS, the Information Technology Department has budgeted the funds necessary to cover the expenses of this conference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized, in accordance with City Policy, for the Information Technology Senior Management Analyst to attend the Help Desk Institute Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad held on the 1 s t day of MARCH ,2005 by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Packard, Sigafoose NOES: None ABSENT: Council Member Hall ATTEST: SEAL
