RE: 2005/2006 Public Library Staff Education Program
I am pleased to announce the 2005/2006 Public Library StaffEducation Program. The
program, which was developed by a team of public library directors and staff, assists you
in your efforts to encourage existing staff members to pursue their MLIS degree. The
new program guidelines and application for this competitive tuition reimbursement grant
program follow this memo.
To make the application process less confusing, we have reverted back to a single
application form for past student recipients who are continuing their studies, as well as
new applicants. Please make sure your staff members applying for funds in 2005/06 note
the enclosed updated Frequently Asked Questions sheet.
After reviewing the attached information, please distribute copies of this information to
your staff. A copy of these application materials are also accessible on our website
(www.1ibrary.ca.gov) as a WORD document. Please be advised that although we have
not yet received federal Library Services and Technology Act funds for 2005/2006 to
support this program, the necessary efforts are underway.
Thank you for your continued assistance in helping us grow a new generation of
librarians. If you are interested in serving as a Reviewer for the 2005/06 application
program, or if you have any questions regarding this program or these materials, please
contact Kathy Low by e-mail at klow@library.ca.gov or at (916) 653-6822.
