I believe in and promote Multi-Cultural acceptance and cooperation. I am an active
member of several nonprofit organizations, e.g., The Asian Business Association (ABA), World
Trade Center Association (WTCA), California Restaurant Association (CRA), National
Restaurant Association (NRA), Oceanside City Chamber of Commerce, and Carlsbad City
Chamber of Commerce. Volunteering means assisting and promoting special event, constant
support and guidance. I express ideals of Multi-Cultural understanding and appreciation in all the
organization I am involved in. I promote education and cooperation between organizations and
companies. One needs to be a living example in all activities undertaken. This includes one's own
community and in outreach to other communities and organizations. This will foster cooperation
between communities and will bring outside help and guidance in your own community. I, not
only help out and support my own culture but I also teach people in my own culture to help out
another. I tried to be a bridge for people of all cultures, organizations, communities, and
companies. I do this through emphasizing the similarities among us rather than focusing on our
differences.

2.As an example, last year I was actively involved with the political campaign of Laura Lee, a
candidate for the Cerritos City Council. I worked within the Hispanic community for Laura Lee.
This fostered greater understanding and "bridged the gap" between the Hispanic and Asian
communities. Now in my own community, the City of Carlsbad, I can generate support and have
more credibfity fiom Councilwoman Lee with both Asian and Hispanic communities. Or being
active with Asian Business Association this year on supporting Ron Roberts on his campaign and
efforts for Mayor. This helps local communities to work together and get involved.
3. What has your firm, organization, or you as individual done to develop a multi-cultural
understanding and appreciation in the San Diego region?
I try to generate an awareness of Multi-Cultural issues and sensitivities in all of my
activities, both personally and professionally. More specifically, and as examples, I volunteered
help to the American Heart Association (AHA) - San Diego Chapter - with their premier annual
event, the Royal Heart Ball on April 26", 2003. Although I was not a member, I believe worthy
causes require our participation and we have to be there for others. I believed in the cause and I
supported them by joining multiple committees to plan the event. I stressed the need for outreach
and appreciation among different communities. I proposed an Asian Theme for their food and
entertainment. It was accepted and well received. The advertising had an Asian flair, it appeared
in magazines and newspapers. The essence was clearly evident down to the invitations. I
obtained support of the California Restaurant Association and the Asian Business Association. I
encouraged each organization to learn about the other, and I did this in hope of future
cooperation and support between them. I would like to thank Yen Tu, Executive Director, and
Fabiola, the marketing executive for ABA, for all their assistance. The event was success., The
evenings' event was catered with an Asian theme. The entertainment and ambience included Lion
Dancers, Asian Children Singing, decorations, and hostesses/ volunteers wearing their own Asian
dress. I think it is good to bring Cultural acceptance in a fun and good-hearted ways. AHA raised
$130,000.00 USD after expenses and it was all in the spirit of Multi-Cultural appreciation.
On August lo*, 2003, I have worked with the representative fiom Carlsbad Village Business
Association (CVBA), the city of Carlsbad, and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce for the 5"
Annual Carlsbad Juried Arts & Crafts Show to promote ABA, Asian community involvement, and
Asian art appreciation. I have encouraged all other cultural organizations to do the same. This
will help my community and city by promoting multi-cultural understanding and appreciation. It
is important to show same enthusiasm and develop multi-culture ideals in local community.

3. May 22”” 04, I have volunteered for local Chili Cook Off contest to raise money for Redeemer
By the Sea, Lutheran Church in Carlsbad. My neighbors and I gathered together to enter,
volunteer and help out for this wonderfbl fun event for local community. Not to mention we raise
close to $3000.00 dollars every year for our neighborhood church but I have won third place with
my chili for the past two years in the roll. There is no reason why a person can’t get involved and
help out their own communities. This is example of you don’t have to do something grand to be
important, you can start of small by helping out your own neighborhood. At this point, I would
like to thank Andrea Fulton for her dedication on the Chili Cook Off for the past two years.
4. How has the involvement of your firm, organization, or you as an individual made a difference
within your profession or sphere of influence?
My primary business, import/ export, allowed me to travel over twenty countries both
professionally and personally. I have not only traveled alone but also went with business groups
and trade missions as well. I represented companies fiom various countries “bridging the gap”
between them. I educate and bring understanding Multi-Cultural cooperation. Even this week on
May 28*, 2004 I will be helping out Berlitz, Inc to consult their employee on traveling to Hong
Kong to help them adjust to their new working environment. I express ideals of Multi-Cultural
acceptance and appreciation everywhere I go. I encourage the same ideals in my profession and
of those around me. I am very happy and fortunate to have the support of my colleagues, family,
and fiends. I am gratified that my involvement got those around me interested. I want to thank
them for their show of support from joining my travels, events, donations, and volunteering.
5. How has the involvement of your firm, organization, or you as an individual made a difference
within your own workplace?
I set myself as an example and bring the very same ideals to my workplace. I educate and
encourage my employees to do the same. I let them know things matter big and small. In my
second business, Peking Garden (a Chinese restaurant in Oceanside), we constantly support
students from local elementary schools with their cultural projects by offering items and
knowledge that they need. We also allow the large organization like the Rotary Club and small
group such as Women Club of Oceanside too held their meetings in our facility. I give time off
for volunteers activities, such as special events or causes. You start small, and you start with
yourself. You start with those around you. I teach them to be active and get involved.
