AUTOMOBILE REPLACEMENT

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2005-149
to iricrease the Vehicle Replacement budget allocation by $21,550.
authorizing the purchase of a replacement automobile and
ITEM EXPLANATION:
A vehicle in use by the Public Works MSA was involved in a collision at no fault to staff in which
repair costs exceeded the current value of the vehicle. The vehicle had been in use for ten years
and had been scheduled for replacement in FY05 but, based on maintenance history, the
replacement had been deferred for one year. During that time, the vehicle was in a collision and was
no longer available for use. Funds have been set aside in the Vehicle Replacement Fund over the
last ten years in the amount of $21,375. In addition, an insurance settlement check was received for
$4,378.50. In all, $25,753.50 has been contributed to the Vehicle Replacement Fund over the past
ten years in order to replace this vehicle. Public Works is recommending the replacement be
downsized from a minivan to a compact truck.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW:
There are no environmental impacts from this action.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Estimated cost of the new vehicle is $21,550. As this is a replacement of an existing vehicle,
maintenance and replacement costs would continue for the new vehicle and should have no impact
on the budget. As mentioned previously, $25,753.50 has been set aside in the Vehicle Replacement
Fund for this vehicle.
Funds in the amount of $21,550 are requested to be appropriated by the City Council from the
Vehicle Replacement Fund for purchase of the replacement vehicle.

RESOLUTION NO. 2005-149
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF
A REPLACEMENT AUTOMOBILE AND TO INCREASE THE
VEHICLE REPLACEMENT BUDGET ALLOCATION BY $21,550.
WHEREAS, a vehicle used in the daily operations of the Public Works Department was
involved in a collision at no fault to staff; and
WHEREAS, replacement funds have been set aside over the past ten years in an amount
Df $21,375 for replacement of this vehicle; and
WHEREAS, an insurance settlement has been received in the amount of $4,379.50.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:

That the above recitations are true and correct.
That $21,550 is hereby appropriated from the Vehicle Replacement Fund to
replace and purchase a vehicle.
3. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, does hereby authorize the
wrchase of a replacement vehicle for the Public Works MSA.
