RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2005-176

approving the purchase of four Ford Rangers, two Ford F-250
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Funds were appropriated in the 2004-2005 fiscal year budget for the purchase of four compact
pickup trucks, Ford Rangers, two %-ton pickup trucks, Ford F-250, and one I-ton pickup truck, Ford
F-550, to replace like vehicles currently in the fleet that have exceeded the age and mileage
requirements of the City’s vehicle replacement program. The Vehicle Task Force has reviewed the
requirements for these vehicles, and has determined that these are the appropriate replacements.
In accordance with Section 3.28.050 of the Municipal Code, Notice to Bidders was mailed to
nineteen vendors. On April 29, 2005 five bids were received, opened, witnessed and recorded. In
accordance with the Municipal Code, a best value evaluation was completed. The bids were
evaluated by staff for cost, delivery schedule, conformance to specifications and any unspecified
value-added offerings. The bid submitted by Raceway Ford was determined to be the best value for
the trucks.
Total cost for the vehicles is $1 58,736.72 including sales tax.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Unencumbered funds in the amount of $158,736.72 are available in the Vehicle Replacement Capital
Outlay Account for the purchase of the vehicles.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF
FOUR FORD RANGERS, TWO FORD F-250 TRUCKS, AND ONE
FORD F-550 TRUCK
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad wishes to purchase four Ford Rangers, two Ford F-250
trucks, and one Ford F-550 truck; and
WHEREAS, Section 3.28.050 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code provides that materials and
services costing over thirty thousand dollars must be obtained through formal bidding procedures;
and
WHEREAS, bid proposals were submitted by five vendors and the bid of Raceway Ford was
determined to be the best value.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the Purchasing Officer is hereby authorized and directed to issue a purchase order
to Raceway Ford, 5900 Sycamore Canyon Boulevard, Riverside, CA, in the amount of
$1 58,736.72 including sales tax.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Carlsbad held on the 7 th day of June ,2005 by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Hall, Kulchin, Packard, Sigafoose
NOES: None
ABSENT: Council Member Lewis
