Arts APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS CITY MG- RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2005-165 accepting a donation from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts in the amount of $28,000 and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate said funds. ITEM EXPLANATION: The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, the non-profit support organization of the City’s Cultural Arts Office, has raised funds to support various programs of the Arts Office. During the 2004 TGIF Jazz in the Park concert series, the Friends raised over $23,000. Other funds have been raised through membership dues. A portion of the donation, $10,000, will be used to offset costs that will be incurred by the City during the 2005 TGIF concert series, for support services such as shuttle buses, porta-toilets and stage equipment. Nine thousand, eight hundred dollars ($9,800) will be used for the “Three Part Art” education program presented at the William D. Cannon Gallery to 3rd and 4th graders that attend schools located in the City of Carlsbad. Four thousand dollars ($4,000) will provide a catalogue to correspond with an exhibition at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, three thousand ($3,000) will be used to fund performers for the 2006 Multicultural Arts Festival and one thousand two hundred dollars ($1,200) will be used for the 2005 Art at Jazz program. FISCAL IMPACT: - $10,000 from the Friends will offset logistic costs for the 2005 TGIF Jazz Concert Series. - $9,800 designated for the “Three Part Art” program will provide partial funding for curriculum - $4,000 will fund printing an exhibition catalogue for the William D. Cannon Art Gallery. - $3,000 will fund performers for the 2006 Multicultural Arts Festival. - $1,200 will provide for the 2005 Art At Jazz program. WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, the non-profit support organization of the City’s Cultural Arts Office, has raised funds during the City’s 2004 TGIF Jazz Concert Series and through its membership dues; and WHEREAS, the Friends are donating $28,000 to the City to assist with partial funding of the following programs: $10,000 to offset logistic costs for the 2005 TGIF Jazz Concert Series; $9,800 for the “Three Part Art” program for curriculum that relates to exhibitions in the Cannon Art Gallery; $4,000 for printing an exhibition catalogue for the William D. Cannon Art Gallery; $3,000 for performers for the 2006 Multicultural Arts Festival; and $1,200 for the 2005 Art At Jazz program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the donation from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, in the amount of $28,000 is hereby accepted. 3. That Finance Director be authorized to appropriate $10,000 into the Special Events Special Revenue org key; $1 1,000 into the Arts Education General Fund org key; $4,000 into the Gallery General Fund org key, and $3,000 into the Arts Office General Fund org key. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 14thday of JUNE ,2005, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Council Members Hall, Packard, Sigafoose NOES: None ABSENT:CounCil Members Lewis , Kulchin ATTEST: Mayor Pro Tern Matt Hall
