ARTS TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION DEPT.HD. # CITY ATTY. CITY MGR RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2005-354 accepting a donation from Mrs. Teresa M. Cannon in the amount of $5,000. IT EM EXP LAN AT1 0 N : Mrs. Teresa M. Cannon has generously donated funds to be used for the "Three Part Art" education program presented at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery. The Three-Part-Art program is an educational outreach program designed to introduce third and fourth-graders from Carlsbad to the experience of interacting with and learning from original works of art in a museum setting. The multi- pronged program includes (1) a curriculum guide sent to participating teachers to help them prepare their classes for a visit to the Cannon Art Gallery; (2) a tour of the Gallery exhibition with an artistleducator; and (3) a related hands-on art activity, led by another artist/educator. The children learn some of the basics of the art vocabulary and most important, they learn that museums and galleries can be welcoming places to see and experience new and exciting ideas. FISCAL IMPACT: The annual cost for the 3 Three-Part-Art programs the City currently offers to Carlsbad schoolchildren is approximately $33,000. The Arts Office requests Council to accept this $5,000 donation from Mrs. Teresa M. Cannon. EXHIBIT 1. WHEREAS, Mrs. Teresa M. Cannon has generously donated $5,000 to be used for the Three-Part-Art Program of the Cannon Gallery; and WHEREAS this funding will support an educational outreach program designed to introduce third and fourth-graders from Carlsbad to the experience of interacting with and learning from original works of art in a museum setting. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That donation from Mrs. Teresa M. Cannon in the amount of $5,000 is hereby accepted. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad on the 13th day of December , 2005, by the following vote: AYES: Council Members Lewis, Hall, Kulchin, Packard, Sigafoose NOES: None ABSENT: None ATTEST:
