RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2005-360 to: Approve donation of used office equipment, shelving, and city vehicle to the City of Waveland,
Mississippi as part of a humanitarian relief effort for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
As a result of Hurricane Katrina, the city of Waveland, Mississippi was virtually destroyed. City of
Carlsbad employees have formed a volunteer group to aid in relief efforts and identify ways to help the
City of Waveland rebuild its infrastructure. Through conversation with Waveland city officials, the
group identified two immediate needs: office furniture and an unmarked car for the police department.
The City of Carlsbad currently has items of surplus office equipment that are in storage as a result of
replacement. The equipment includes filing cabinets and some shelving. The items are not being used
and are destined for auction. The value of this equipment is estimated to be less than $1,000.
City vehicle A706, a Ford Taurus assigned to the police department, is due to rotate out of service.
Previous auction value for this type of vehicle has been less than $2,000. The replacement for this
vehicle was budgeted at $18,000, but due to competitive biddmg, a vehicle will be obtained for
approximately $14,500.
It is requested that the City Council approve the donation of the used office equipment, shelving, and
city vehicle A706 to the City of Waveland, Mississippi as part of a humanitarian relief effort.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE DONATION
OF USED OFFICE EQUIPMENT, SHELVING, AND CITY
VEHICLE A706 TO THE CITY OF WAVELAND,
MISSISSIPPI AS PART OF A "ITAFUAN RELIEF
EFFORT FOR THE VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA
WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the
United States, and
WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina has overwhelmed local and state resources in Waveland,
Mississippi, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad desires to provide assistance to the
rictims of Hurricane Katrina, and
WHEREAS, the assistance will be in the form of used office equipment, shelving, and a
:ity vehicle, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad see this assistance as necessary and
ippropriate and serving a public purpose which is consistent with the meaning as defined in the
constitution of the State of California, Article XVI, Section 6, and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports this recovery effort.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council of the City of Carlsbad believes this assistance serves a
public purpose and is consistent with the Constitution of the State of California.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 13 t h day of December ,2005, by the following
vote:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Hall, Kulchin, Packard, Sigafoose
