RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2006-010 authorizing Library Deputy Director Suzanne
,thSmithson to attend the Public Library Association 11 National Conference in Boston,
Massachusetts, March 21 through March 25, 2006.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Public Library Association Conference is the only conference dedicated entirely to the
continuing education needs of public librarians. The Deputy Director can take advantage of
the in-depth information offered in the workshops providing expertise on dealing with issues
and challenges in delivering library services today.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Library's Conference travel budget for FY05-06 included the costs for the Deputy
Director to attend the California Library Association (CLA) Conference in November. She
did not attend CLA and therefore there are sufficient funds to cover the estimated
$2,050.00 cost for this trip.

RESOLUTION NO.2006-010
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING OUT-OF-STATE
TRAVEL FOR DEPUTY LIBRARY DIRECTOR SUZANNE
SMITHSON TO ATTEND THE PUBLIC LIBRARY ASSOCIATION
11™ ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS,
MARCH 2006
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize
out-of-state travel for Deputy Library Director Suzanne Smithson to attend the Public
Library Association 11th Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the Library's Conference Travel budget for the
requested out-of-state travel;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the out-of-state travel is hereby authorized in accordance with City
policy for Library Deputy Director Suzanne Smithson to travel to Boston, Massachusetts to
attend the Public Library Association 11th National Conference.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of
the City of Carlsbad, California, on the 17th day of January , 2006,
by the following vote, to wit:
