RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2006-090 approving an associate engineer from the Engineering
Department out-of-state travel to attend a two-day training course on concrete construction and
repair of existing structures. The course is held in Phoenix, Arizona, from April 26-27, 2006.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The purpose of the training is to provide the associate engineer state-of-the-art information on
advances in the field of troubleshooting concrete construction problems and concrete repair basics.
Preventive maintenance of concrete has proved to be cost-effective in providing service to the public
with limited budgets. The course is designed and presented by the American Concrete Institute.
Concrete repair problems are becoming more extensive each year and handling complex issues
during construction need to be timely.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend this course is approximately $1,600, which includes flights, shuttles, lodging,
and meals. Funds are available in the Engineering budget to cover all estimated costs.

RESOLUTION NO.2006-090
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AN ASSOCIATE
ENGINEER OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND A TWO-DAY
TRAINING COURSE IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA, FROM
APRIL 26-27. 2006.
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize out-of-state
travel for an associate engineer to attend a concrete construction and repair training course; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2005-2006 Engineering Department budget for
the out-of-state travel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That out-of-state travel is hereby authorized in accordance with City policy, for an
associate engineer to attend a training course in concrete construction and repair in Phoenix,
Arizona, from April 26-27, 2006.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council
held on the Hth day of April , 2006 by the following vote, to wit:
