TRAVEL TO SEATTLE, WASfflNTON, TO ATTEND THE
2006 POINTS OF LIGHT NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2006-095 approving out-of-state travel request from the
Communications Department for Sue Irey, Community Volunteer Coordinator to attend the
2006 Points of Light National Conference on Volunteering and Service, to be held June 17
-21, 2006 in Seattle, Washington.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
There will be trainings on Community-Based Programs, Senior Corps Initiatives, and New
Trends in Volunteering. Also, Sue Irey is a Board Member of the National Association of
Volunteer Programs in Local Governments (NAVPLG). NAVPLG is having their annual
meeting and Board elections at this conference.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total cost is $1,514.00 based on the following expenses:
Airfare - $258
Conference Registration - $400
Food - $200
Lodging - $656
Funding is available in the Community Volunteer Coordinator's current fiscal year's budget.

1. Resolution No. 2006-095 authorizing out-of-state travel for Sue Irey, Community
Volunteer Coordinator to travel to Seattle, Washington for the 2006 Points of Light National

RESOLUTION NO. 2006-095
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AND
AUTHORIZING OUT OF STATE TRAVEL TO SEATTLE,
WASHINTON.
WHEREAS, the Community Volunteer Coordinator, a Board Member of the National
Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government (NAVPLG), will be able to attend their
annual meeting. This meeting will be held at the Points of Light Conference.
WHEREAS, the City Council is enhancing their goal to involve volunteers by allowing
staff to learn the latest trend in the field of volunteer management.
WHEREAS, this resolution is a strong affirmation of the value of volunteers to the City
of Carlsbad.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That out of state travel for the Community Volunteer Coordinator to Seattle,
Washington is hereby approved.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad on the 18th day of April , 2006, by the following vote:
