RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Introduce Ordinance No. NS-797 amending Section 2.08.020 of the Carlsbad Municipal
Code to adjust the compensation of the City Treasurer.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Government Code section 36517 provides that the City Treasurer shall receive a
compensation fixed by ordinance or resolution of the City Council.
The City Council has adjusted the City Treasurer's compensation in the years of 1968, 1973,
1980, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1995, 2001, 2003 and 2005. The City Treasurer's current
compensation is $970 per month. The last compensation adjustment became effective
January 1, 2005. This amendment would adjust the City Treasurer's compensation five
percent per year for a total often percent since the last adjustment, effective January 1,
2007. This is the same manner in which state law deals with the compensation for elected
city council members under Government Code section 36516. The proposed ordinance
adjusts the City Treasurer's compensation from $970 per month to $1,070 per month.
The salary adjustment would become on January 1, 2007
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact resulting from this action will be an increase in compensation of the City
Treasurer of $100 per month for a total annual fiscal impact of $1,200.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA TO AMEND SECTION 2.08.020
OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADJUST THE
COMPENSATION OF THE CITY TREASURER
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California does
ordain as follows:
SECTION I: That section 2.08.020 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code is
amended to read as follows:
"2.08.020 Compensation of City Treasurer
(a) Effective January 1, 2007, the compensation of the City Treasurer is
fixed at the sum of $1,070 (one thousand seventy dollars) per month payable biweekly.
(b) In addition, the City Treasurer shall receive an automobile allowance
as established by resolution of the City Council."
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty days after its
adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to
be published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Carlsbad
within fifteen days after its adoption.
