RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Introduce Ordinance No.NS-798 amending section 2.08.030 of the Carlsbad
Municipal Code to adjust the compensation of the City Clerk .
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Government Code section 36517 provides that the City Clerk shall receive a
compensation fixed by ordinance or resolution.
The City Council adjusted the City Clerk's compensation in the years of 1968, 1973,
1980, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2005. The City Clerk's current
compensation is $970 per month. The last compensation adjustment became effective
January 1, 2005. This amendment would adjust the City Clerk's compensation five
percent per year for a total of ten percent since the last adjustment, effective January
1, 2007. This is the same manner in which state law deals with the compensation for
elected city council members under Government Code section 36516. The proposed
ordinance adjusts the City Clerk's compensation from $970 per month to $1070 per
month.
The salary adjustment would become effective on January 1, 2007.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact resulting from this action will be an increase in compensation of the
City Clerk of $100 per month for a total annual fiscal impact of $1,200.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA AMENDING SECTION
2.08.030 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE TO
ADJUST THE COMPENSATION OF THE CITY CLERK
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California does ordain as follows:
SECTION I: That section 2.08.030 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code is
amended to read as follows:
"2.08.030 Compensation of the City Clerk.
(a) Effective January 1, 2007, the compensation of the City Clerk is fixed
at the sum of $1,070 (one thousand seventy dollars) per month, payable bi-weekly.
(b) In addition, the City Clerk shall receive an automobile allowance as
established by resolution of the City Council."
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty days after its
adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to
be published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Carlsbad
within fifteen days after its adoption.
