ACCEPT DONATION OF $40,000 FROM

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2006-184 accepting a donation of $40,000 and
acknowledging a pledge of $26,962 from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library, appropriating the
funds to the Library's Friends Donations Fund, and directing an appropriate letter of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $40,000 to the Library for the specific
purpose of the purchase of adult and children's audio books.
Furthermore, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged an additional $26,962 to support
Children's, Teen's and Adult programming, National Library Week and Children's Book Week
celebrations and the annual Library Information Fair For Educators (L.I.F.E.).
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Library augment the budget for the library allowing for
additional materials, services and programming for the community.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2006-184 accepting the donation from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library and acknowledging the pledge of further support for a variety of
Library programs.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A $40,000
3 DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE CARLSBAD
4 LIBRARY
5 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $40,000 to the
6 Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of audio books for the collection; and
7 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged an additional
8 $26,962 to be used in support of a variety of programs and events for children, teens
9 and adults;
10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
14 2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $40,000 from the Friends of the
15 Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby appropriates these
16 funds to the Library's. Friends Donations Fund.
