ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A
DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF
THE LIBRARY

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2006-301 accepting a donation of $10,200 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library, acknowledging a pledge of an additional $41,050 direct support of library programs,
directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the funds to
the Carlsbad City Library's Friends donation account.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $10,200 to the Library for the purchase of the
following:
Book trucks for the Dove Lane facility 2,000
Assisted listening devices for the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium 7,200
Furnishings for the Teen book area at the Cole Library 1.000
$ 10,200
In addition to the donated funds, the Friends have pledged to directly fund the following programs:
Multicultural Festival 2,500
Children's Author Festival 1,500
Summer Reading Program 36,000
Adult Poetry Programs 1.050
$41,050
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Library augment the budget for the Library allowing for additional
materials, services and programming for the community.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of the donation from the Friends of the Library does not qualify as a project under the
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental review is
required.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2006-301 accepting the donation and pledge of support from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library to the Carlsbad City Library and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate funds.

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING AND
3 APPROPRIATING A DONATION FROM THE FRIENDS OF
4 THE CARLSBAD LIBRARY
5 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $10,200 to the
6 Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of equipment and furnishings; and
7 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged direct support for
8 an additional $41,050 to be used for a variety of programs and events for children,
9 teens and adults;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
14 2. That the City Council acknowledges the direct support from the Friends of
15 the Library and accepts the donation of $10,200 on behalf of all citizens of
16 Carlsbad.
17 3. That the Finance Director is authorized to appropriate the funds as
18 needed to the Library's Friends donation account.
