DEPT. 18,773 11/7/06 ARTS ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS DEPT. HEAD CITY ATTY. s&2 CITY MGR. ijj^ RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2006-310 accepting a grant in the amount of $2,000 awarded from the California Arts Council's Youth Education in the Arts program and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate these funds into the Arts Education General Fund account. ITEM EXPLANATION: In April 2005, the Arts Office submitted a grant proposal to the California Arts Council's (CAC) Youth Education in the Arts (YEA) program, requesting $5,000 for the Cannon Art Gallery's Three- Part-Art education program. In August 2005, the Arts Office, having received a 3+ rating out of a possible 4, was awarded $3,840 from the CAC/YEA grant program. On August 16, 2005, under Resolution No. 2005-253, City Council accepted this grant, and the funds were appropriated into the Arts Education General Fund account. In April 2006, the CAC notified the Arts Office that its participation in the YEA grant program would be extended and that it would receive an additional $2,000 for its 2006 arts education programming. These new funds will be expended by the Arts Office on the Cannon Art Gallery's Three-Part-Art education program for third and fourth graders in Carlsbad's schools in FY 06-07. FISCAL IMPACT: This $2,000 grant will provide partial funding for the Cannon Art Gallery's "Three-Part-Art" education program and will reduce the donated funds needed to support this program, which has an annual cost of approximately $33,000. The terms of the grant require the City to provide a dollar-for-dollar cash match. The match may come from private contributions, local or federal grants, or other non-State funds. The Arts Office will use funds budgeted in its Arts Education General Fund account for this match. The Arts Office requests the Finance Director be authorized to appropriate the $2,000 grant award into the Arts Education General Fund account to be expended for the Three-Part-Art education program in FY 06-07.
