RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2006-330 authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the
2007 Concrete Replacement, Project No. 60062.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Some concrete improvements in the public right-of-way need to be replaced because of deterioration,
cracking, and uplifting. Curb, gutter, sidewalk, and driveway approaches which need to be replaced
have been identified from complaints and visual inspection by City staff. The Streets Department has
provided the Engineering Department with a list of locations where concrete replacement is
necessary. It is important that this concrete work be completed prior to the pavement rehabilitation,
which is scheduled for next summer.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This project is categorically exempt from the environmental review process under Section 15301
Class 1(c) of the Public Resources Code (California Environmental Quality Act).

The total estimated cost is $264,000 for the concrete replacement project. The Capital
Improvement Program has allocated $250,000 annually for concrete replacement. Therefore, it is
anticipated that additional funds of $14,000 will be required to complete the project. A request for
additional funds will be made at the time the project is awarded based on the final bids received.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO
ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE 2007 CONCRETE
4 REPLACEMENT. PROJECT NO. 60062.
5 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, has determined it
6 necessary, desirable, and in the public interest to replace damaged concrete in accordance with
7 the City's ongoing street maintenance program; and
8 WHEREAS, the contract and specifications for furnishing of all labor, materials, tools,
9 equipment, transportation, and other expenses necessary or incidental to the 2007 Concrete
10 Replacement, Project No. 60062, have been prepared and are on file in the Public Works-
11 Engineering Department of the City of Carlsbad and are incorporated herein by reference; and
12 WHEREAS, Capital Improvement Program funds are available in the amount of
13 $250,000 for completion of the concrete repairs; therefore, additional funds will be requested, if
14 necessary, at the time the construction contract is awarded; and
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
16 California, as follows:
17 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
18 2. That the specifications and contract documents for the 2007 Concrete
19 Replacement, Project No. 60062, are on file in the Public Works-Engineering Department of the
20 City of Carlsbad and are hereby approved.
21 3. The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby authorized and directed to
22 publish, in accordance with State law, a Notice to Contractors Inviting Bids for the construction of
23 the 2007 Concrete Replacement, Project No. 60062, in accordance with the specifications
24 and contract documents referred to herein.
