RECOMMENDED ACTION: __ __
Adopt Resolution No. 2006-362 accepting a donation in the amount of $23,730 from
the North San Diego County Genealogical Society to the Carlsbad City Library and directing
Finance to appropriate the funds to the Library Gifts and Bequests Fund.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The North San Diego County Genealogical Society has long been a supporter of the Carlsbad
City Library and has provided funds for additions to the collection in the Genealogy Division at
the Georgina Cole Library.
The Board of the Society recently voted to donate these funds for the specific purchase of
City Directories of the United States: Segment II (1861-1881), a 452 microfilm reel collection.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will allow a significant addition to the collection over and above the amount
budgeted for collection development for this year and the funds will be spent within this
current fiscal year.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of the donation from the San Diego County Genealogical Society for the
purchase of the microfilm does not qualify as a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.

5 WHEREAS, The North San Diego County Genealogical Society has donated
7 $23,730 to the Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of a microfilm set, City Directories
8 of the United States: Segment II (1861-1881) for the genealogy collection at the

WHEREAS, The City Council wishes to accept this gift on behalf of all citizens of
11 Carlsbad;
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
1 -5IJ Carlsbad, California, as follows:
14 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
15 2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $23,730 for the purchase of the
16 microfilm and directs Finance to appropriate these funds to the Library
17 gifts and bequests account.
