HEAD RECOMMENDED ACTION: To consider adopting Resolution No. 2006-365 authorizing the settlement claim of Robert Wick. ITEM EXPLANATION: The claimant was a Police Sergeant with the Carlsbad Police Department. He was employed by the City of Carlsbad for approximately eighteen years and sustained various work related injuries. Mr. Wick sustained industrial injuries to his low back, right lower extremity, skin cancer, heart and hypertension, while performing his usual and customary duties with the Police Department. Mr. Wick received an industrial disability retirement in July 2006. The terms and conditions of the proposed settlement are set forth in the Compromise and Release (on file in the Human Resources Department). The terms and conditions were agreed upon by the claimant and the City, and have been approved by TRISTAR, the City's Third Party Administrator, and the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of the settlement is $80,000.00, There are sufficient funds available in the Workers' Compensation Self-Insurance Fund to cover the cost of this settlement. EXHIB8TS: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 17 2. That the expenditure of $80,000.00 from the Workers' Compensation Self- 18 19 Insurance Fund is authorized for the settlement of said claim. 20 3.
