CITY ATTY CITY MGR. RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council adopt Resolution No. 2006-368 accepting the California Office of Traffic Safety DUI Mini-Grant and appropriating funds to conduct two sobriety checkpoints within the City of Carlsbad. ITEM EXPLANATION: The California Office of Traffic Safety has approved Carlsbad's application for their Sobriety Checkpoint Mini-Grant Program for Local Law Enforcement Agencies. The goal of this grant is to reduce the number of people killed statewide in alcohol-related crashes. The mini-grant funds overtime costs to conduct sobriety checkpoints during the two National Impaired Driving Campaign mobilization time periods: Winter 2006/2007 and late Summer 2007. This cost is estimated to be approximately $16,900 for two checkpoints. FISCAL IMPACT: The overtime costs of $16,900 for the two checkpoints are fully funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety DUI Mini-Grant. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None EXHIBITS: 1. COUNCIL ACTION: APPROVED DENIED CONTINUED WITHDRAWN AMENDED nnnnn CONTINUED TO DATE SPECIFIC CONTINUED TO DATE UNKNOWN RETURNED TO STAFF OTHER - SEE MINUTES D D Dn 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2006-368 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE CALIFORNIA 3 OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY.DUI MINI-GRANT AND 4 APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO CONDUCT TWO SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS IN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD. 5 6 WHEREAS, the California Office of Traffic Safety approved the City of Carlsbad's 7 applications for their Sobriety Checkpoint Mini-Grant Program for Local law8 Enforcement Agencies; and WHEREAS, the goal of this competitive grant is to reduce the number of people 11 killed statewide in alcohol-related crashes; and 12 WHEREAS, it is the desire of Carlsbad Police Department to participate in this 13 program to help reduce drunk driving locally; 14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 16 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 17 2. That the Police Chief is authorized to execute all appropriate agreements with18 the California Office of Traffic Safety for receipt of the subject grant funds, as 20 well as any required reports and/or final statements. 21 3.
