RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-062 .approving an out-of-state travel request for the City
Treasurer to attend the TLG Conference in Washington.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
This is a nationwide conference. It provides a venue that cultivates freethinking and networking
in which to generate new ideas and practical approaches to various financial and other
problems faced by local governments and their citizens. Topics affecting the City Treasury
include how to inspire elected and appointed leaders; engagement of citizens; community
partnerships with private/nonprofit/educational institutions; environmental concerns; use of
economic technology/marketing; and organizational transformation of a culture - philosophy,
work environment, and service delivery.
The City of Carlsbad is requesting that the City Treasurer, Harold McSherry, attend the above
conference scheduled for June 5 - June 8, 2007.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend the conference will be approximately $1,550.00 which includes travel,
lodging, registration and meals. Funds are available in the Treasurer's budget to cover all
estimated costs.

WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize out-of-
7 state travel for the City Treasurer to attend the Transforming Local Government
8
conference; and

WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that this is an opportunity to obtain valuable
11
education; and

WHEREAS, funds are available in the amount of $1,550.00 in the FY 2006-07 Treasury
14
Department budget.

16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
17 California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That permission is granted to City Treasurer Harold (Mac) McSherry to travel out-
20 of-state to attend this conference.
