RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-074 approving out-of-state travel for six Carlsbad staff to
attend the TLG Conference in Bellevue, Washington.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
This is a nationwide conference which provides a venue that cultivates free thinking and
networking in which to generate new ideas and practical approaches to various financial and
other problems faced by local governments and their citizens. The City of Carlsbad has been
invited to present "Imagine the Possibilities: Connecting Community, Place, and Spirit" at this
conference.
The City of Carlsbad is requesting that members of the CCPS team attend the conference
scheduled for June 5-8, 2007. There are eight staff members on this team, and three have
already included this expense in their FY 2006-07 budgets (Ray Patchett, Lisa Hildabrand, and
Courtney Enriquez).
This request is for travel approval for the additional five team members (Sandra Holder, Cynthia
Haas, Denise Vedder, Mark Steyaert and Val Brown).
Fire Chief Kevin Crawford is also requesting out-of-state travel to attend this conference.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend the conference will be approximately $1,550 for each person, which includes
travel, lodging, registration and meals. Funds are available in the various departmental budgets
to cover all estimated costs.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No.2007-074 authorizing out-of-state travel for five members of the
CCPS presentation team and the Fire Chief to travel to Bellevue, WA for the TLG Conference.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL FOR CITY
STAFF MEMBERS TO ATTEND TRANSFORMING LOCAL
GOVERNMENT CONFERENCE IN BELLEVUE. WASHINGTON
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize
out-of-state travel for members of the Connecting Community, Place, and Spirit team to
attend and present at the Transforming Local Government Conference,

16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2006-07 budgets of Recreation,
Community Development, Communications, and Fire Department,
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That permission is granted to Sandra Holder, Kevin Crawford, Cynthia Haas,

Denise Vedder, Mark Steyaert, and Valarie Brown to travel out of state to attend this22
