RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-075 , approving out of state travel for a Fire Department
Captain to attend the 6th Annual National Drowning Prevention Symposium in Phoenix,
Arizona, on April 25 and 26, 2007
ITEM EXPLANATION:
This two-day symposium provides the advanced knowledge and safety information critical to
local programs concerning water safety and drowning prevention. The Fire Department's
Water Watcher Program will be augmented by information derived from this symposium.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend this course is approximately $800.00. This amount will be paid from the
Fire Department Emergency Operations Training Budget in the General Fund. This amount
will cover the cost of airfare, lodging, and symposium registration fees
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2007-075 approving out-of state-travel for a Fire Department
Captain to attend a two-day drowning prevention symposium.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL
3 FOR A FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN TO ATTEND THE 6TH ANNUAL
4 NATIONAL DROWNING PREVENTION SYMPOSIUM IN PHOENIX,
ARIZONA ON APRIL 25 AND 26, 2007.

6 WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize
7 out-of-state travel for a Fire Department Captain to attend the 6th Annual National
8 Drowning Prevention Symposium; and

WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2006-07 Fire Department Emergency
10 Operations Training Budget for out-of-state travel.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:13
14 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
15 2. Out-of-state travel is hereby authorized, in accordance with City policy, for
16 a Fire Department Captain to attend the 6th Annual National Drowning Prevention
17 Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 25 and 26, 2007.
