RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-124 accepting a donation of $1,000 from the
Carlsbad Lions Club and a $500 donation from the Slaggie Family Foundation, appropriating
the funds, and directing appropriate letters of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Slaggie Family Foundation has made a $500 donation to the Carlsbad City Library in honor
of Carlsbad residents, Tom and Michelle Schlehuber, to support programs in the Library.
At the City Council Meeting of April 17, 2007, Miss Carlsbad, Michelle Ashman, presented a
check in the amount of $1,000 to the Carlsbad City Library on behalf of the Carlsbad Lions Club
which specified the funds should be used to provide materials for the sight-impaired.
Both donations need to be appropriated to the Library's budget for expenditures this fiscal year.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donation from the Slaggie Family Foundation will augment the Library's budget for ongoing
programs to allow for some additional promotion of the Library and its programs.
The donation from the Lions Club allows the Library to increase the acquisitions budget for the
purchase of reading materials specifically for the visually impaired.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of the donations does not qualify as a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.

CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING AND
3 APPROPRIATING TWO DONATIONS TO THE
4 CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY
5 WHEREAS, the Slaggie Family Foundation has donated $500 in honor of
. Carlsbad residents, Tom and Michelle Schlehuber, and the Carlsbad Lions Club has6
donated $1,000 to the City for the Carlsbad City Library, and;
WHEREAS, the Slaggie Family Foundation has specified that the funds be used
8 to support ongoing programs at the Carlsbad City Library; and
9 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Lions Club has specified its donation be used for
JO materials for the visually impaired;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
j2 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
13 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
14 2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $500 from the Slaggie Family
Foundation and $1,000 from the Carlsbad Lions Club, on behalf of all citizens
16 of Carlsbad, and hereby authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate these

funds to the Library' budget.
