RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-132 accepting a donation of $29,000. from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts for various Cultural Arts Office programs.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and
supporting the programs and activities of the City's Cultural Arts Office, has donated $29,000 to
the City for various Arts Office programs. The Friends raise their funds through the Opportunity
Drawings conducted at the TGIF Jazz concerts and through their membership program. The
$29,000 donation is intended to be used as follows: $18,000 for support services such as
shuttle buses, porta-toilets and supplies at the TGIF Jazz concerts; $7,500 for materials and art
supplies for the Three-Part-Art education program; and $3,500 for an exhibition catalogue for
the "2007 Cannon Invitational" at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting this donation does not qualify as a project under the California Environment Quality
Act (CEQA Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will provide partial funding for the TGIF Jazz concerts ($18,000), the Three-Part-
Art education program ($7,500), and the Cannon Art Gallery ($3,500), all of which are regularly
funded, in part, by donations.
The Cultural Arts Office requests Council accept this $29,000 donation and the Finance
Director be authorized to accept the funds into the Arts Office Donation Fund.

WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts has generously donated $29,000
