REQUEST FOR OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND THE
AUTODESK UNIVERSITY 2007 CONFERENCE IN

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-222 approving an out-of-state travel request for one designated
Engineering Department staff member to attend the annual Autodesk University 2007 Conference in
Las Vegas, Nevada.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Engineering staff utilizes Autodesk's AutoCAD software program to prepare a variety of work products
ranging from informational maps and graphics to Capital Improvement Program project construction
drawings. As the AutoCAD software evolves it is necessary to attend training such as the subject
conference to ensure that it is being used as effectively as possible.
This is a nationwide conference which is in its 15th year. Customers, partners, and prospects engage
in a four-day learning and networking experience which will focus on information business-specific
solutions. Staff will receive updated information on Autodesk's AutoCAD software program and
related technology, best practices, and specialized hands-on training on the full capabilities of
Autodesk software.
The City of Carlsbad is requesting that one designated Engineering Department staff member attend
the above conference scheduled for November 27 through November 30, 2007.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend the conference will be approximately $2,000 which includes travel, lodging,
registration, and meals. Funds are available in the Engineering Department budget to cover all
estimated costs. Funds will be transferred from In-State Travel to Out-of-State Travel.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AN OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL
REQUEST FOR ONE DESIGNATED ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
4 STAFF MEMBER TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL AUTODESK
UNIVERSITY 2007 CONFERENCE IN LAS VEGAS. NEVADA.

WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to authorize
6
out-of-state travel for one designated City staff member to attend the annual Autodesk University
7
2007 Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada; and
8
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that this is an opportunity to obtain valuable
9
education; and
10
WHEREAS, funds are available in the amount of $2,000 in the FY 2007-2008
Engineering Department budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,13
California, as follows:14
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.15
