DEPT. 19,161 9-11-07 RECREATION FURNITURE PURCHASES FOR THE SENIOR CENTER DEPT. HEAD VVV CITY ATTY. ^ CITY MGR. \JU^^ RECOMMENDED ACTION: Award a contract to Office Pavilion to provide furniture for the Senior Center Expansion project and the Senior Center Refurbishing project, and approve Resolution No. 2007-240 ITEM EXPLANATION: The Senior Center Expansion project is currently underway. The project includes expansion of Senior amenities on the first floor of the former Carlsbad Unified School District Administrative Offices that were purchased by the City. In addition, the project includes construction of office space on the second floor which is intended to house the Recreation Administrative offices. Construction of the tenant improvements is currently anticipated to be complete around the beginning of October. Both the first floor and second floor will receive furnishings, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) that will be installed after the tenant improvements are complete. The entire project (tenant improvements and FF&E) is anticipated to be complete in November 2007. In addition to the above project, staff is replacing worn and dated furniture in the existing Senior Center. The 18 year old furnishings are currently showing signs of wear and tear and, in some cases, can no longer be repaired. The new furnishing will provide added service, safety, and comfort for the seniors utilizing the facility as well as a consistent look to integrate the older section of the Senior Center with the new Expansion project. Replacement furnishings include items such as dining room tables and chairs, lobby seating and tables, lounge chairs, credenza, and bookcases. A table and chairs are also requested to provide seating for our new Information Center which will provide resources on aging related programs and services for Seniors and their families. FISCAL IMPACT: Office Pavilion is currently under contract to supply FF&E for City projects. They have provided costs for each segment of the project. The following chart outlines the costs and proposed funding sources.
