RECOMMENDED ACTION:
To consider adopting Resolution No. 2007-249 . approving La Costa Canyon High School's
request for in-kind service assistance in support of the October 18,2007 Homecoming Parade.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City Council provides an opportunity for citizens and organizations to have an item
placed on a City Council Agenda by submitting correspondence to the City Manager.
Attached is an e-mail request from the La Costa Canyon High School ASB requesting that the
City Council consider allocating approximately $1,052 of "in kind" services to assist with the
2007 La Costa Canyon High School Homecoming Parade. La Costa Canyon High School
ASB is requesting the City assume expenses associated with the staging of the parade,
including Police Department traffic services ($852) and Streets Department traffic control
equipment and labor costs ($200).
FISCAL IMPACT:
If approved, the fiscal impact would be the cost of providing "in kind" services ($1,052)
appropriated from the City Council Contingency fund.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROPRIATING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT
OF $1,052 FOR "IN KIND" SERVICE ASSISTANCE

WHEREAS, La Costa Canyon High School Associated Student Body Council has
5
requested "in kind" service assistance for the La Costa Canyon High School Homecoming Parade
6 on 10-18-07; and
WHEREAS, staff determined Police Department traffic services and Streets Department
traffic control equipment and labor are necessary to assist with the La Costa Canyon High School
9 Homecoming Parade; and
10 WHEREAS, staff determined the cost of providing Police Department traffic services and
Streets Department traffic control equipment and labor for the La Costa Canyon High School
12 Homecoming Parade is $1,052.
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, as
14 follows:
15 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council elects to appropriate the funds requested.
3. That the Finance Director is hereby authorized to appropriate $1,052 from the
Council's Contingency Account balance to cover the costs of providing services to La Costa18
Canyon High School for the Homecoming Parade.

Hello my name is Lauren Siegman and I am ASB Vice President at La Costa Canyon High School. We are
holding the annual Homecoming Parade on Thursday, October 18, 2007. The parade will follow the same
route as last year and will be exteneded to Camino de Los Coches this year. We are requesting a
proposal for the city to help fund this event. We would like to have our proposal heard on Tuesday
September 18 at the City Coucil Meeting. Please notify us via email or call us at 760-436-6136 ext. 6203.
