RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2007-299 approving the Fire Marshal from the Fire
Department out of state travel to attend the Western Fire Chiefs Association Board of
Directors Meeting and Presidents' Forum in Anchorage, Alaska from May 7-8, 2008.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Each year the Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA) holds a Presidents' Forum where the
State Fire Marshals from the ten western states, the board of the Western Fire Chiefs
Association and selected leaders in the fire service work on leadership, management and
fire-service-wide strategic planning.
The Carlsbad Fire Marshal serves as the Chair of the National Code Services Association, a
section of the WFCA and has been invited to attend this years President's Forum.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to attend this meeting is approximately $950.00.
Fire Prevention budget in the General Fund.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
This amount will come out of the

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE FIRE MARSHAL
3 OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL TO ATTEND THE WESTERN FIRE
4 CHIEFS ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING AND PRESIDENTS
FORUM IN ANCHORAGE, ALASKA FROM MAY 7-8, 2008

WHEREAS, the City Council concurs that it is in the public interest to
6
authorize out-of-state travel for the Fire Marshal to attend the Western Fire Chiefs
8 Association Board Meeting and Presidents' Forum; and
9 WHEREAS, funds are available in the FY 2007-2008 for out-of-state travel.
10 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad ordains as
11 follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the out-of-state travel is hereby authorized in accordance with City
14
policy, for the Fire Marshal to attend the Western Fire Chiefs Association

15 Board Meeting and Presidents' Forum in Anchorage, Alaska, from
17 May 7-8, 2008.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 4th day of December, 2007, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard, and Nygaard.
