RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2007-306 accepting a donation in the amount of $2,500 from the
North San Diego County Genealogical Society to the Carlsbad City Library, authorizing Finance
to appropriate the received funds to the Library budget and directing an appropriate letter of
thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The North San Diego County Genealogical Society has long been a supporter of the Carlsbad
City Library and has continuously provided funds for additions to the collection in the
Genealogy Division at the Georgina Cole Library.
The Board of the Society recently voted to donate $2,500 for the specific purchase of a two
year membership to Footnote.com, a website that makes available to its users a collection of
primary historical documents in a digital format
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will allow a significant addition to the collection over and above the amount
budgeted for collection development for this year and the funds will be spent within this current
fiscal year.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting this donation does not qualify as a project under the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2007-306 accepting the donation from the North San Diego County
Genealogical Society and authorizing the appropriation of the funds.
2. Invoice from [Archives dba Footnote.com in the amount of the donation, $2,500.00.

WHEREAS, The North San Diego County Genealogical Society has donated
$2,500 to the Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of a two year membership to

0 WHEREAS, The City Council wishes to accept this gift on behalf of all citizens ofy
Carlsbad;
11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
12 Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the City Council accepts the gift from the North San Diego County
15 Genealogical Society for the purchase of the membership and hereby
authorizes the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the
16 Library budget.
