RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No.2008-010 accepting a donation of $20,000
from George and Patricia Gowland, authorizing Finance to appropriate the received funds to
the Library budget and directing an appropriate letter of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
George and Patricia Gowland have made a donation in the amount of $20,000 to the
Carlsbad City Library for the specific purpose of expanding the Library collection. The funds
need to be appropriated to the Library Gifts and Bequests Fund for purchases in Fiscal Year
2007-08.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting this donation does not qualify as a project under the California Environmental
Quality Act (CEQA Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The donation will increase the Library's Gifts and Bequests fund, which is available for
expanding all areas of the Library's collection beyond what was budgeted in the operating
budget.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION AND
3 APPROPRIATING THE FUNDS
4 WHEREAS, George and Patricia Gowland have donated $20,000 to the
5 Carlsbad City Library for the expansion of the collection; and
6 WHEREAS, The City Council wishes to accept this gift;
7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.9
2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $20,000 from George and Patricia
10 Gowland on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby authorizes Finance to
11 appropriate the received funds to the Library budget.
