RECOMMENDED ACTION
Adopt Resolution No. 2008-047 accepting a cash donation from the 21st Annual KoKo
Beach fundraiser to benefit Carlsbad Senior Center programs and directing the Finance
Director to appropriate the received funds.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Since 1987, KoKo Beach restaurant owners Jeff King and Martin Kouma have conducted an
annual fundraiser to support the seniors of Carlsbad. Fundraising efforts include golf
tournaments and the sale of restaurant discount tickets with all the proceeds being donated to
the Carlsbad Senior Center to provide special holiday programs and purchase equipment for
senior programs such as the computer lab and art and healthy cooking classes.
Now in its' 21st year, the Koko Beach fundraiser offered to the public $5.00 discount coupons
for lunch or dinner during the month of October. Senior Center volunteers sold 281 discount
tickets. Local citizens, seniors and regular KoKo Beach customers participated by purchasing
the $5.00 discount coupon tickets. All of the proceeds graciously benefit the Carlsbad Senior
Center.
On December 6, 2007 the Senior Commission received the above donation and
recommended acceptance by the City Council. A letter of appreciation has been sent on
behalf of the Recreation Department and the Carlsbad Senior Center to the KoKo Beach
restaurant owners.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Recreation Department requests that City Council accept the cash donation in the
amount of $1,405 and authorize the Finance Director to appropriate the received donation to
the Senior Trust Account - Senior Program Donations that will benefit the Senior Center
programs.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines section 1537B, this
