RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adoption Resolution No. 2008-081 accepting product donations from the Friends of
Carrillo Ranch, Inc. in support of Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Since Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park opened to the public in 2003, the historic Caretaker's
Cottage has served as the park's Visitor Center. At the Visitor Center, guests may explore the
park's rich cultural history through a variety of interpretive displays and a 13 minute orientation
film produced by The Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc.
The audio video equipment purchased four years ago for the Visitor Center has gradually
suffered due to wear from its constant use. In November, 2007, the President of the Friends of
Carrillo Ranch, Alan Kindle, approached staff to offer the assistance of his organization in the
full replacement of the aging and outdated audiovisual equipment.
The Friends generously donated a 26" Sony Bravada LCD television and a Sony DVD combo
VHS player (Exhibit 2). Now park visitors can enjoy watching the park orientation film and an
abundance of Leo Carrillo's golden era films on a new state of the art system.
On February 4, 2008 the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously voted to recommend
the receipt of the product donations from the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. be accepted by the
City Council.
The City of Carlsbad Recreation Department wishes to acknowledge The Friends of Carrillo
Ranch, Inc. and its membership for their generosity and continued support of the Leo Carrillo
Ranch Historic Park. The City Council additionally wishes to recognize the City's partnership
with the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. in providing life long learning opportunities to the entire
community.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The accepting of product donations from the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc. represents a fair
market value savings of $1,000 to the City's General Fund based upon the actual replacement
purchase cost.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065 and CEQA Guidelines section 15378, this
action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA and therefore, does not
require an environmental review.

5 WHEREAS, the City Council of Carlsbad, California wishes to accept the
6 donation of audio visual equipment and acknowledge the generosity and support of the
7 Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc for the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park.
8 WHEREAS, on February 2, 2008 the Parks and Recreation Commission
9 received donations and recommended acceptance by the City Council.
10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct
14 2. The City of Carlsbad does hereby accept the donation of audio visual
15 equipment totaling $1,000.
