RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2008-105 accepting a donation of $19,100 from the Friends
of the Carlsbad Library, acknowledging a pledge of an additional $9,100 in direct support,
directing an appropriate letter of thanks and authorizing the Finance Director to appropriate the
received funds to the Carlsbad City Library's budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $19,100 to the Library and pledged an
additional $ 9,100 to be paid directly to suppliers. These funds will be used for the purchase of
equipment, specialized furniture and fixtures, small appliances and amenities for the staff
lounge, and promotional items for the Carlsbad Library Learning Center and to cover the
expenses related to food and entertainment for the Grand Opening Celebration.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad Library augment the budget for the Library and
allow for additional materials, services and programming for the community. This donation and
pledge of support will provide for items not included in the original project costs and a large-
scale Grand Opening Event for the entire community.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting the donation does not qualify as a project under the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA Guidelines Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
EXHIBITS:
1. Resolution No. 2008-105 accepting the $19,100 donation from the Friends of the
Carlsbad Library, directing the Finance Director to appropriate the received funds and
acknowledging a pledge for an additional $9,100 in direct support.

WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have donated $19,100 to the

Carlsbad City Library for the purchase of furniture and fixtures, small appliances and

10 WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad Library have pledged an additional

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:

16 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
17 2. That the City Council accepts the donation of $19,100 from the Friends of
18 the Carlsbad Library on behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, for furniture and
19 other items for the Library Learning Center and hereby authorizes the
20
Finance Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library budget.

3. That the City Council acknowledges with thanks the additional sum of
23 $9,100 pledged in direct support for additional items and the expenses
24 related to the Grand Opening Celebration of the Library Learning Center.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 15th day of April, 2008, by the following vote to wit:
