RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt resolution No. 2008-115 accepting monetary donation Waste Management.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Carlsbad's CityStuff program is an outreach program presented by employees and volunteers. In 2002,
the City collaborated with Junior Achievement to enrich the educational experience of the youth of
Carlsbad. Each spring, CityStuff volunteers are assigned to a classroom where they introduce the
concepts of democracy and free enterprise.
Donations are solicited to offset the City's costs associated with printing classroom lessons. Waste
Management offered to contribute funds to cover the cost of printing the student questionnaire and
Council Photo Chart.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A donation of $720 by Waste Management is to be appropriated to the CityStuff account. These
donations will allow the CityStuff program to continue to educate children about democracy and their
local government.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This activity is not a project and is therefore not subject to State CEQA pursuant to State CEQA
Guidelines Section 15060(c)(2).

WHEREAS, Waste Management has made a generous contribution of $720 to
6
the Carlsbad CityStuff program to print the student questionnaire and City Council
7
Photo Chart that is part of the CityStuff curriculum; and8

IQ WHEREAS, Carlsbad third-graders will learn a great deal about government and
11 the issues of importance to governing at a local level; and
12
13 WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad wishes to accept the donation to the Carlsbad
14 CityStuff program and appropriate the funds to the Communications Fund;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
17
Carlsbad, California, as follows:18
19 1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
20 2. That the City Council accepts the donation from Waste Management on
21 behalf of all citizens of Carlsbad, and hereby appropriates the donation to
22 the Communications Fund for use in the CityStuff program.
