ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION
FROM THE CARLSBAD FRIENDS

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2008-167 accepting a donation of $28,000 from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks and Three-Part-Art programs.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and
supporting the programs and activities of the City's Cultural Arts Office, has generously offered
to donate $28,000 to be used by the City for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks and the Three-Part-Art
programs. The Friends raise their funds through the Opportunity Drawings conducted at the
TGIF Jazz concerts and through their membership program. The $28,000 donation is intended
to be used as follows: $20,000 for support services such as shuttle buses, porta-toilets and
supplies at the TGIF Jazz concerts; $8,000 for materials and art supplies for the Three-Part-Art
education program.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Accepting this donation does not constitute a project under the California Environment Quality
Act (CEQA Section 15378) and no environmental review is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This donation will provide partial funding for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks program ($20,000) and
the Three-Part-Art program ($8,000), both of which are regularly funded, in part, by donations.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE
ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF
$28,000 FROM THE CARLSBAD FRIENDS OF THE ARTS
6 WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts has generously offered to donate
7 $28,000 for the TGIF Jazz in the Parks and Three-Part-Art programs; and
WHEREAS, this donation will provide $20,000 for support services such shuttle

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

$28,000 is hereby accepted.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad on the 17th day of June, 2008, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Hall, Packard and Nygaard.
