RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2008-205 adjusting the salary of the City Attorney by 2.1%
effective January 1, 2008.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Under the provisions of the existing Letter of Understanding, the salary of the City Attorney is
established by formula and shall be set at no less than 95% of the City Manager's base
compensation. That survey has been completed and results in an adjustment of the salary of
the City Attorney of 2.1%.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There are sufficient funds in the General Fund balance and the Finance Director is directed to
appropriate the necessary funds to City Attorney's budget to support these costs.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This amendment is statutorily exempt from CEQA pursuant to Public Resources Code Section
21080(b)(1).

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ADJUSTING THE SALARY OF
3 THE CITY ATTORNEY

5 WHEREAS, the City Council determines based on the Letter of Understanding
6 dated November 21, 1996 and subsequently amended, that it is necessary and
7 appropriate to adjust the compensation of the City Attorney,
8 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
9 Carlsbad, California, as follows:

1. That the above recitations are true and correct.

2. That the salary of the City Attorney shall be adjusted by 2.1% effective
13 January 1, 2008.
14 3. That the Finance Director is directed to transfer the necessary funds from
15 the General Fund balance to the City Attorney's budget to support the costs of this
16 amendment.
