ACCEPTANCE OF PROJECT TO PERFORM TRAFFIC SIGNAL
UPS AND BATTERY BACKUP INSTALLATION

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2008-258 accepting the work in accordance with Contract No.
PWGS316R, Traffic Signal UPS and Battery Backup Installation as complete, and direct the City Clerk to
have the Notice of Completion recorded and release bonds in accordance with State Law and
City Ordinances.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On January 8, 2008, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2008-002, awarding Contract No.
PWGS316R, to Steiny and Company, Inc., for $194,436 and authorized $20,000 in contingency funds
to install traffic signal uninterruptible power sources and battery backup systems in 33 traffic signals.
The construction phase of the project was completed on time and all outstanding items have been
received. The new UPS and battery backup systems have been inspected and tested by staff and are
acceptable to the Public Works Manager, General Services.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The approval of a Notice of Completion is a ministerial process and is exempt from the requirements
of CEQA pursuant to Section 15268 of the State CEQA Guidelines.

2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE WORK AS
3 COMPLETE AND DIRECTING THE RECORDATION OF THE
NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPS AND4 BATTERY BACKUP INSTALLATION. PROJECT NO. PWGS316R.
5 WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2007-253 approving contract
" documents, special provisions and specifications, and authorized the City Clerk to advertise for
7 bids to perform Contract No. PWGS316R, Traffic Signal UPS and Battery Backup Installation,
8 hereinafter referred to as the "Project"; and
q WHEREAS, the City Council has previously awarded a contract for the Project; and
10 WHEREAS, the Project work has been satisfactorily completed; and
WHEREAS, a Notice of Completion has been prepared for the Project; and
12 WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds it necessary, desirable, and in the public interest
13 to accept the completed work to perform Contract No. PWGS316R, Traffic Signal UPS and Battery
14 Backup Installation.
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
16 California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
18 2. That the completed work is hereby accepted and the City Clerk is directed to record
19 the Notice of Completion and to release bonds in accordance with State Law and City Ordinances.
