CITY OF CARLSBAD - AGENDA BILL ENG AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE BIDS FOR THE FY 08/09 CONCRETE REPLACEMENT PROJECT NO. 6013 DEPT. HEAD CITY ATTY. CITY MGR. (/yv - RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 2008-265 authorizing the City Clerk to advertise bids for the FY 08/09 Concrete Replacement, Project No. 6013. ITEM EXPLANATION: As part of the City's Annual Concrete Replacement Program, the Streets Department has provided the Engineering Department with a list of locations where concrete replacement is necessary. Some concrete improvements in the public right-of-way need to be replaced because of deterioration, cracking, and uplifting. Curb, gutter, sidewalk, curb ramps, and driveway approaches which need to be replaced have been identified from complaints and visual inspection by City staff. Various locations requiring repairs are located in the northwest quadrant of Carlsbad. These repairs are coordinated with the fiscal year 2008/2009 Pavement Management Program. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The project involves the repair of existing public facilities in the form of replacement of curb, gutters, sidewalks, curb ramps, and driveways within the existing public right-of-way. The project is therefore categorically exempt from the environmental review process under Section 15301 Class 1(c) (Existing Facilities) of the State CEQA Guidelines. FISCAL IMPACT: FY 08/09 CONCRETE REPLACEMENT PROJECT Construction Contract Estimate Construction Contingency (10%) Inspection, Testing, and Construction Management (10%) TOTAL ESTIMATED COST ESTIMATED COSTS $265,762 $26,576 $26,576 $318,914 The total estimated cost is $318,914 for the FY 08/09 Concrete Replacement Project. PROJECT NO. 6013. 5 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, has determined it 6 necessary, desirable, and in the public interest to replace damaged concrete in accordance with 7 the City's ongoing street maintenance program; and 8 WHEREAS, the contract and specifications for furnishing of all labor, materials, tools, 9 equipment, transportation, and other expenses necessary or incidental to the FY 08/09 Concrete 10 Replacement, Project No. 6013, have been prepared and are on file in the Public Works- 11 Engineering Department of the City of Carlsbad and are incorporated herein by reference; and 12 WHEREAS, Capital Improvement Program funds are available in the amount of 13 $350,000 for completion of the concrete repairs; and 14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, 15 California, as follows: 15 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 17 2. That the specifications and contract documents for the FY 08/09 Concrete 18 Replacement, Project No. 6013, are on file in the Public Works-Engineering Department of the 19 City of Carlsbad and are hereby approved. 20 3.
