RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution Nos. 2008-270 2008-271 2008-272
appointing three members to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The term of Denny Cooper expires in August 2008. Mr. Cooper, who was appointed to
the Commission to fill an unexpired term in March 2005, has served 3 years and seven
months.
The term of Nora George expires in August 2008. Ms. George was appointed to the
Commission in April 2005 to fill and unexpired term. She has served three years and six
months.
Marlaine Hubbard has resigned from the Commission. Ms. Hubbard was originally
appointed in November 2001 and was reappointed in September 2005. An appointment
is needed to fill this unexpired term.
Copies of applications received in August 2008 are on file in the Office of the City Clerk.
The other members of the Parks and Recreation Commission are: Jim Comstock, Jim
Craig, Sally Lyons and Leonard Martyns.
NOTE: Members of the Parks and Recreation Commission are subject to the
provisions of the Political Reform Act, and must file Statements of Economic Interests.

Dear Mayor Lewis and Council Members:
Thank you for giving me the honor of serving the City of Carlsbad as a Parks and
Recreation Commissioner. I have very much enjoyed being part of an amazing team
these last four years and seeing so many new projects and programs come to fruition.
Individually, I feel the biggest contribution I've made was to instigate an inclusion
program and assist staff in developing yet another award-winning program. Hence, it is
with heavy heart that I need to decline another 4-year term due to my anticipated time
constraints. My 4-year old starts kindergarten in late August and we will not know her
school schedule until then. Additionally, she and my 7-year old son are constantly adding
extra-curricular activities to our schedule and I need to keep my Monday afternoons clear
for ballet and soccer. Perhaps when they are a little older and more independent I can
rejoin the City team. Thanks again for this wonderful opportunity. It truly was a
privilege.
